Kenyan police and other security agencies are conducting arbitrary arrests and detentions, extortion, and other abuses against Somalis in a new wave of security operations. Since April 2, almost 4,000 people are reported to have been arrested and detained in Nairobi and Mombasa. 

The UN Security Council approved a force of 12,000 peacekeepers for the Central African Republic. The vote comes amid reports of fresh violence in the town of Dekoa which left 30 people dead, and yesterday morning two French soldiers were injured in the capital Bangui. Scores of people have been killed and huge numbers of Muslims have fled for their lives as "terrifying" violence has ripped the country apart in recent months.
