This table includes information documented by Human Rights Watch during interviews with hundreds of victims and witnesses to LRA attacks, children and adults who were abducted by the LRA and later escaped, and civil society representatives and local leaders. Research was conducted in northern Congo and the Central African Republic in numerous missions in six missions in 2009 and 2010 including visits to many of the villages that were attacked. Additional killings and abductions documented by the United Nations, which do not replicate attacks documented by Human Rights Watch, are also included. Since the LRA attacks villages in remote areas with limited communications, roads, and other infrastructure, this table does not represent the full picture as neither Human Rights Watch nor the UN have been able to confirm all the reports of attacks. The actual number of victims is probably far higher.
