Our mission: The High School Program is a division of the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival. The High School Program provides human rights-related videos and educational resources to supplement existing high school and after-school program curricula. Our goal is to meet the needs of high school teachers and after-school educators experimenting with complex human rights issues and to support important and sometimes difficult conversations in ways that inspire youth dialogue and youth media production around issues of human rights.

Upcoming Events: HRWIFFHSP is pleased to announce that it will be hosting youth film screenings at the upcoming NYC Grassroots Media Conference on Saturday February 11, 2006 at New School University in Manhattan. The screening will feature 4 films from the High School Program’s video catalogue.

The NYC Grassroots Media Conference is a large annual event that brings together local independent media makers and community organizers for strategy and skill sharing sessions to strengthen campaigns for social justice. Each year, the NYCGMC “Youth Track” features sessions run by and for youth in how to build your own radio station, create your own video production and how to get involved in hip hop activism amongst others. Youth panels will highlight campaigns for media justice and hands on workshops will offer information on online journalism for youth, stencil making, screen printing and more. Consider bringing your class or youth group to this dynamic event. Contact Jen Nedbalsky nedbalj@hrw.org for more information.
