ANNUAL DINNER CONSULTANT
Development & Outreach Department
(Los Angeles Office)

Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking highly-qualified applicants for the position of Annual Dinner Consultant for its Los Angeles office. The Los Angeles office is the base for HRW’s development, fundraising, outreach and advocacy activities in Southern California.

Description: The Development and Outreach Department in Human Rights Watch’s (HRW) Los Angeles Office is seeking an Annual Dinner Consultant. The period of the consultancy is June 9, 2008 through November 21, 2008 although dates may be negotiable.  
 
The Consultant will:  
  • coordinate logistics of the Annual Dinners and the Defender Visit to Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, including travel logistics and stay  
  • set up meetings and speaking events with community members, press, activists, students and potential funders  
  • prepare the master schedule for Defenders and volunteers  
  • work with vendors  
  • solicit donations for gift baskets  
  • organize dinner materials  
  • organize meetings with Special Events staff and the Dinner Planning Committee  
  • participate in and produce minutes for Dinner Committee meetings in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara  
  • coordinate sponsorship, save-the-date and invite mailings with Michel Teta Associates  
  • recruit and organize volunteers for the Dinner tour and coordinate schedules  
  • update and track expenses for the Dinners  
  • complete all Gift Processing for Los Angeles and Santa Barbara Dinners, including acknowledgement and tax letters  
  • produce the Annual Dinner Programs for Los Angeles and Santa Barbara and create Dinner pages on HRW California website  
  • provide administrative and clerical assistance in the Los Angeles office, including with regard to newsletters and other mailings and the coordination of local events

Qualifications: The successful candidate will be self-motivated, extremely well-organized, collegial, able to function under pressure and handle numerous tasks simultaneously. S/he must be willing to take initiative, prioritize and work independently as well as function as a member of a team. The ideal applicant will have solid office/administration experience, demonstrated organizational skills and strong computer skills (including Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Raiser’s Edge, networks, and the Internet). Graphic design and web design skills are strongly desired. Strong interest in international human rights is highly desirable.
