The Operations Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an intern to help respond to all incoming email, phone, fax and written enquiries. He/she will help sort the incoming mail and ensure mail goes out at the end of each day, prepare packages to be sent by courier, order and purchase necessary office supplies and perform general reception duties such as answering the main phone, and taking care of visitors. The Operations Intern will also assist in the setting up of meetings and be required to take minutes. Other clerical duties will include aspects of financial administration, human resources and office management.
This internship is unpaid. Human Rights Watch will reimburse London-based interns' travel and lunch expenses in accordance with HRW policy.
Students are often able to arrange academic credit, as HRW internships often offer direct exposure to the workings of an international human rights organization, close supervision by the HRW staff, interaction with other U.S. and international organizations and foreign and domestic government officials, and opportunities to attend lectures, trainings and special events relating to human rights. Students should check with their individual academic institutions for requirements.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have good administration and writing skills, be well-organized, self-motivated and reliable. Relevant experience is highly desirable, and knowledge of foreign languages is a plus. Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office, Internet applications) are an essential requirement for this role.
