Genre: Documentary

In 1995, documentarian Steve James (HOOP DREAMS) returned to rural Southern Illinois to reconnect with Stevie Fielding, a troubled young man to whom he had served as mentor and Big Brother ten years earlier. James intended to capture the happy reunion on camera; what he finds instead is a grown-up Stevie, still struggling and living below the poverty line in a trailer park. The filmmaker embarks on a quest to uncover what happened to Stevie over the past ten years and to understand the forces that shaped, and continue to shape, where Stevie is now. Originally intended as a modest portrait, STEVIE is an intimate four-and-a-half-year chronicle of the life of Stevie, his ruptured family, the criminal justice system, and the filmmaker himself.
