In a prison a few miles south of Tel Aviv lives Mordechai Vanunu, Israel's nuclear whistleblower, long forgotten by most of the world. Sixteen years have passed since he exposed Israel's secret nuclear weapons programme and paid for it with his freedom. He was kidnapped by Mossad agents and illegally smuggled to Israel where he was convicted of treason in a secret trial. Even today, Israel's nuclear, biological and chemical capabilities remain un-inspected and their masters unaccountable, either to their own citizens or the outside world. Vanunu spent nearly twelve years in solitary confinement. Seen as a traitor by Israelis and abandoned by most of his family, today an American couple who legally adopted him are among the few visitors he is permitted.
