Photo Exhibit "Tibet: Silence, Prison, or Exile"

In conjunction with the Festival, Human Rights Watch and Aperture present a remarkable series of photographs of Tibet over the last fifty years. The exhibit includes rare prison images that were taken with a powerful telephoto lens. Several leading photographers contributed their work, including images of a Tibetan way of life that is dying out as the presence of more and more Han Chinese overwhelm the Tibetan people in their own homeland. These photographs and many others appear in a beautiful new book, published jointly by Human Rights Watch and Aperture, which also includes essays by leading Tibet scholars and interviews with Tibetan exiles.

The gallery space is open daily during regular theater hours. The exhibit will run June 14 - 29.

A public reception to introduce "Tibet Since 1950: Silence, Prison, or Exile" will take place in the gallery on Thursday, June 15, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm.
