About the Paris office

After setting up in London, Geneva, Brussels and Berlin, Human Rights Watch created an office in Paris in October 2007 to increase the scope of its actions within the European Union. This development demonstrates the organization’s determination to become more international as it deals with the growing complexity of human rights in a multi-polar world.

The Paris office enables Human Rights Watch to act so that French policy towards human rights protection becomes as active as possible, in France as well as internationally. Human Rights Watch encourages France to play a leading role in Europe and the world in this area.

As the United States' credibility as promoter of human rights has faltered and as other major countries like China and Russia are
severely criticized in this area, it is essential for the EU to assume a real leadership in the protection of human rights around the world.

The Team

He also served as the director of a leading French NGO focused on North-South issues, Agir ici pour un monde solidaire, which recently joined OXFAM’s international network. From 1999 to 2005, Jean-Marie Fardeau was a member of the High Council for International Cooperation, an advisory body to the French Prime Minister. Trained as an agronomist, Jean-Marie Fardeau also served as President of CIDSE, an international network of 15 European and North American development agencies.

In 2006, after she left advertising, she became Executive Director of the Women’s Forum for the Economy and Society, in charge of communications and marketing. She was graduated from HEC in 1986, and is a member of the management team of “HEC au Féminin,” of the HEC Alumni Association, the first women’s professional network created in France.

Human Rights Watch does not accept any government funds and depends on the generosity of private individuals and foundations whose donations help us send researchers in the field, put pressure on governments, rebel groups, companies and other influential groups, and encourage the media to develop a consciousness of human rights. Your help is vitally important. To make a donation, go to the donations page.
