Afghan
The government announced charges against Abdul Ghani, an Afghan in his late 30s, on July 28, 2008, accusing him of conspiracy, attempted murder in violation of the laws of war, and providing material support for terrorism.
The United States claims that in 2002, Ghani helped transport and plant landmines and other explosive devises to be used against US and coalition forces, fired rockets at US bases, trained other fighters how to use rockets, landmines and other explosives, accepted money from Al Qaeda and shot and seriously wounded an Afghan soldier. However, on December 19, 2008, the government dismissed the charges without explanation, saying it reserved the right to recharge Ghani at a later date.
