On Wednesday, November 9, 2011 we welcomed 400 guests to our 'Voices for Justice' Annual Dinner. We honoured Hossam Bahgat for his tireless efforts to build civil rights and uphold personal freedoms of all Egyptians. We also recognised the incredible work and courage of Elena Milashina for exposing the truth about human rights abuses and government corruption in Russia. Their stories inspired and moved the audience, making it truly an unforgettable evening. © 2011 Michala Maughan

While events in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Syria and Bahrain have provoked huge media and political interest here in the UK, there has been much less focus on the situation in Saudi Arabia. This seminar will look at the human rights challenges within Saudi Arabia, as well as the response of the Saudis to popular uprisings across the region.

Honoring those who speak out where there is silence
On November 9, we will honour Hossam Bahgat from Egypt and Elena Milashina from Russia, for their unwavering, fearless commitment to human rights. Please join Human Rights Watch as we present them with our highest honour, The Alison Des Forges Award for Extraordinary Activism.
