UN Advocacy Director
Steve Crawshaw, United Nations advocacy director, works to further the UN's human rights agenda through public and private advocacy. In his previous position with Human Rights Watch as London director, Crawshaw did advocacy work with the UK government, gave TV and radio interviews on behalf of the organization, and published on human rights issues in the UK press. Before joining Human Rights Watch, Crawshaw reported for the Independent on the Eastern European revolutions, the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Balkan wars, and covered stories in Burma, Hong Kong, and Sudan. He studied Russian and German at Oxford and Leningrad Universities, and taught English in Poland during the Solidarity era. Crawshaw speaks French, German, Russian, and Polish.
