Allison Gill

Allison Gill, director of Human Rights Watch's Russia office, has specialized expertise on the former Soviet Union, Uzbekistan, Russia, Belarus, and the Ukraine. As director of the Russia office, Gill conducts research and advocacy on human rights issues in Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus, oversees the work of the Moscow office, and serves as Human Rights Watch's spokesperson in the region. Previously, she served as director of Human Rights Watch's office in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Before joining Human Rights Watch, Gill held positions at the program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research at Harvard University, the International Rescue Committee in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and Project Harmony in Russia and Ukraine. Gill received a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law; an M.A. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, and a B.A. in Political Science from Swarthmore College. She speaks Russian.
