Human Rights Watch Canada offers an unpaid internship program for recent University and College graduates two times a year: winter/spring (Jan. - Apr.) and fall (Sept.- Dec.). Internship opportunities are available for individuals interested in learning about our work and making a contribution to our organization in our Toronto office.
Please keep in mind that the Toronto office is primarily a development office that does limited advocacy work. There are NO research based internship positions in the Toronto office and no program divisions.
Interns will be responsible for providing administrative support to our full-time development staff in Toronto and will assist with the planning of our development and outreach events such as our Annual Dinner (fall) and Film Festival (winter). Duties are two-fold and can include but are not limited to the following:
• Administrative support: database entry, minute-taking, drafting letters and emails, filing, etc.
• Event planning support: maintaining invitation lists, coordinating volunteers, organizing mailings and on-site support, etc.
• Development support: prospect research, website management, etc.
Toronto office interns are asked to work a minimum of 18 hours per week, 3 days a week for 4 months.
If you are interested in interning with Human Rights Watch Canada, please send your cover letter and resume to Alison Thornton at thornta@hrw.org.
UPDATE: Applications are no longer being accepted for the Winter 2012 internship. Please note interns must be eligible to work in Canada.
