The California Committee South is a dedicated group of volunteers who support Human Rights Watch in Los Angeles through outreach, advocacy and fundraising. Founded 20 years ago by Jane Olson and Stanley Sheinbaum, the Committee includes more than 80 members from a variety of backgrounds and professions. Members make a financial commitment to Human Rights Watch and participate regularly in outreach events and advocacy campaigns.

The California Committee South is part of the Human Rights Watch Council, a network of committees across 13 cities in Europe, Canada and the United States. Composed of more than 450 opinion leaders from a variety of backgrounds, the committees are an informed and engaged constituency that play a key role in our global defense of human rights. The Council seeks to increase awareness of local and global human rights issues and enlist the public and governments to support basic rights for all. Committee members meet regularly to learn about human rights abuses, sponsor policy debates, and generate support for Human Rights Watch and its mission through fundraising, outreach and advocacy.
