Learn More About Unaccompanied and Separated Children

“Unaccompanied children” are persons under eighteen years of age who have been separated from both parents and are not being cared for by an adult who, by law or custom, is responsible to do so. The term “separated children” refers to persons under eighteen years of age who are separated from both parents or from their previous legal or customary primary caregiver. Unaccompanied or separated children are often refugees or migrants.
