They fled the civil war in Sierra Leone, where Human Rights Watch has documented unspeakable atrocities. The Guinean government estimates that more than 65% of the refugees are children. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is charged with providing assistance and protection for these refugees.
