    The Campaign to Ban Landmines

What You Can Do

  • Ask your government to join and implement the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty. Check this list to see if you government has signed and/or ratified.

  • If you live in the United States, you can write a short letter to the President, Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of State or find your Congressional representative to let them know how you feel. about antipersonnel landmines, and the refusal by the U.S. to sign the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty. Contact the U.S. Campaign for more information and to endorse the ban.

  • Raise awareness in the media. Write a letter to the editor, or an op-ed to your newspaper to express you concern about antipersonnel landmines. The media needs to know that the global landmine problem has not gone away just because we now have an international treaty outlawing the weapon. We still need to get all countries to ban this weapon, including the United States. We need to clear the millions of mines still lying in the ground and we will need to take care of the hundreds of thousands of innocent people who have survived a landmine explosion for decades to come.

  • Endorse the ban by joining the International Campaign to Ban Landmines. Go to the web site of the ICBL for more information. Provide valuable information on landmines in your country by contacting the Landmine Monitor.
