2008 Nominations

Nomination criteria:

Nominations for the Awards for Action on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights are accepted for any individual or non-profit organization whose work has directly contributed to addressing HIV/AIDS and human rights issues. Anyone may submit a nomination.

Nominations are invited both for individuals and organizations working at the community level and for those operating at national and international levels.

Two advisory committees, composed of individuals familiar with HIV/AIDS and human rights issues, will select the award recipient(s). The following criteria will be considered and assessed in reviewing the nominees:

  • Practical work linking HIV/AIDS and human rights issues;
  • Relevance of work to marginalized individuals and communities living with or affected by HIV/AIDS;
  • Evidence of serious and long-term commitment;
  • Potential for award to strengthen nominee's work;
  • Potential for award to enhance visibility and public awareness of issue or project the nominee is addressing; and
  • Potential for award to attract additional resources for resolution of the issue or advancement of the project.

We would like to thank members of the advisory committees for generously volunteering their time and expertise, as well as all those who submit a nomination.

How to submit a nomination:

Nominations may be submitted in English, French, Spanish or Russian and should include:

  • A nomination form;
  • A brief biography or organizational sketch, along with a nomination statement explaining why the nominee should be considered for this award (maximum five pages); and
  • One letter of support from individuals or organizations familiar with the nominee's contribution (optional, but encouraged).

The nomination should provide specific examples explaining how the nominee has demonstrated long-term commitment to work having a direct impact on HIV/AIDS and human rights issues, and illustrating the relevance of the nominee's work to marginalized individuals and communities living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.

Submissions must be received before 5pm, June 27, 2008. Late submissions cannot be accepted.
