Child Soldiers Ratification Campaign

Ghana

Ghana maintains a "straight-18" position and has played a leadership role on the child soldiers issue, hosting the West Africa regional conference on war affected children in May 2000. Ghana has ratified the African Charter and ILO Convention 182, but surprisingly has not yet signed the Optional Protocol.

Success! On September 24, 2003, Ghana signed the optional protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflicts. Please continue to write to the Japanese government urging them to ratify the treaty.
