What You Can Do to Stop Abuses by Paramilitary Groups

1. Write the U.S. Congress and President Bush
Urge the U.S. Congress and President Bush to support legislation that would ensure that U.S. security assistance to Colombia include human rights conditions.


2. Write your Foreign Minister
Write your Foreign Minister to pressure the government of Colombia about military links to paramilitary forces and the failure to protect human rights.


3. Write to President Alvaro Uribe Vélez
Write to President Alvaro Uribe Vélez urging him to sever military links to paramilitary forces and prosecute the perpetrators of human rights violations.



What You Can Do to Stop Abuses by the FARC-EP

1. Write to Commander Marulanda
Write to Commander Manuel Marulanda of the FARC-EP expressing your concern about the violations of international humanitarian law being committed in Colombia by the FARC-EP. Stopping these abuses and ensuring that international humanitarian law principles are enforced is a necessary foundation for any peace in Colombia.

2. Write to Foreign Ministers
Write to the eight Foreign Ministers representing countries assisting the Colombian peace process urging them to raise this issue directly with Commander Marulanda and press him to adopt measures that would ensure that the forces under his command respect international humanitarian law.
