Researcher, Children's Rights Division
Priyanka Motaparthy is a researcher in the Children's Rights Division of Human Rights Watch, where she investigates violations of children’s rights in the Middle East. She joined Human Rights Watch in 2009 as the Leonard H. Sandler fellow in the Women's Rights and Middle East divisions. Since that time, she has written reports on migrant workers in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, as well as on the stateless Bidun in Kuwait. Since joining the Children’s Rights Division in 2011, she has researched the prosecution of children before military courts in Egypt, abuses against children in the Egyptian criminal justice system, military attacks and occupation of schools in Yemen, juvenile death penalty cases in Yemen, and torture and detention of children in Syria. She is a graduate of Brown University and Columbia Law School, and is currently based in Cairo. She also speaks Arabic.
