Michele Alexander, Human Rights Watch's Deputy Executive Director for Development & Global Initiatives, has managed the organization's outreach, fundraising and marketing activities since 1996. Alexander established the Human Rights Watch Council in 1998. Under Alexander’s leadership, Human Rights Watch is now raising $60 million annually, with fundraising operations in 18 cities globally. Previously, Alexander served as vice president for corporate support of CARE, where she conducted development and program missions in Haiti, Pakistan, and Ecuador. While at CARE, she also worked on contract for the United States Agency for International Development in Pakistan. In addition, she was a training consultant for the Anti-Defamation League, where she worked with universities and corporations on diversity issues. Alexander holds a law degree from Brooklyn Law School, where she was a member of Moot Court Honor Society, and has done graduate coursework at New York University.
