Jean-Marie Fardeau, director of Human Rights Watch's office in France, seeks to influence French foreign as well as domestic policies in order to give them a human rights dimension. Before joining Human Rights Watch in 2007, he served for nine years as General Secretary of the Catholic Committee against Hunger and for Development (CCFD), a major French NGO. He previously served as the Director of the leading French NGO focused on North-South issues, Agir ici pour un monde solidaire, which recently joined OXFAM's international network. From 1999 to 2005, Jean-Marie Fardeau was as a member of the High Council for International Cooperation, an advisory body to the French Prime Minister. Trained as an agronomist, Jean-Marie Fardeau also served as President of CIDSE, an international network of 15 European and North American development agencies.
