Researcher, Middle East and North Africa Division

Faraz Sanei is the Iran researcher with Human Rights Watch's Middle East and North Africa division. Faraz produces detailed reports, news releases and op-eds based on his findings, and conducts local and international advocacy surrounding human rights issues affecting Iran. He was previously at the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center, where he served as interim executive director, program director and senior human rights lawyer from 2008 to 2009. He was an associate at the law firm of Snell & Wilmer in Phoenix from 2001 to 2003, where he primarily worked on environmental and regulatory matters, and practiced law at several law firms in Los Angeles from 2004 to 2008. Faraz holds a doctorates in law from Vanderbilt University and a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of California at Los Angeles. He is fluent in English and Farsi (Persian).
