Armed conflict between Sri Lankan government security and proxy forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) has continued to result in deaths, displacement, and injuries. As part of the fourth session, Human Rights Watch has urged members of the council to place UN human rights monitors on the ground to document the deteriorating situation in the country.
