Rachel LaFortune is a researcher in the Women’s Rights Division at Human Rights Watch. She focuses on the rights of women with disabilities in Canada within the context of the care economy. Rachel builds on her body of work on socio-economic and cultural rights issues in Canada, in particular, related to the rights of Indigenous peoples, the right to housing, the right to water, corporate accountability, and the human rights impacts of climate change, among other topics. She has previously worked in the Environment and Human Rights Division at Human Rights Watch, at Amnesty International Canada, and as a freelance consultant supporting non-profits and Indigenous organizations and governments. Rachel holds a law degree from Columbia Law School and speaks English and French.
